Overview:

Yin yoga is well suited as one effective option to help evoke the relaxation response; it also addresses connective tissue tightness around the hips, pelvis, low back, and pelvic floor.

Yin yoga is not a restorative practice. It is highly effective for persistent pelvic, low back and hip pain because of the targeted focus on these areas of the body.

Nine of the most effective postures are taught in this resource package.  They are a companion series to Pelvic Health Solution's course: Innovative Exercises for the Sensitive Nervous System.

There are two videos for each posture:

  1. An instructional video which reviews all of the key elements for teaching clients each of the nine postures. These can be found in the 'Course Materials' section.
  2. The second video in each series is for home practice for the patient. Video instructions for patients will allow them to quiet their minds and focus on the sensations in their body as they practice their yin yoga. These can be found in the 'Course Materials' and 'Patient Exercises' sections.

The 'Course Materials' section of this course allows you, the healthcare professional, to watch all materials and take notes. The 'Patient Exercises' section allows you to prescribe the exercises to your patients (an Embodia membership is required to prescribe exercises to patients).

What’s included in this course?

  • 18 yin yoga exercises. Keep scrolling to see what exercises are included.
  • Three 30-40 minute curated yin practices to prescribe to your patients; one is addressed at improving sleep, and the other two address lumbopelvic tension in the front of the body/pelvic floor and the back of the body/pelvic floor
  • The patient exercises can easily share with your patients via Embodia

The instructors
Amber Morphy
Pelvic Floor Yoga Specialist
Amber practices a variety of styles of yoga, Ashtanga, Moksha and Yin. Her passion is YIN! She received her Fitness Theory Course and Group Instructors certification through the YMCA and has also attained her CPTN Yoga instructors certification. In August 2009, she had the good fortune to travelling to British Columbia and received her YIN Yoga Teacher Trainer under the guidance of Bernie Clark.

Carolyn Vandyken
BHSc (PT)

Carolyn is the co-owner of Reframe Rehab, a teaching company engaged in breaking down the barriers internationally between pelvic health, orthopaedics and pain science. Carolyn has practiced in orthopaedics and pelvic health for the past 34 years. She is a McKenzie Credentialled physiotherapist (1999), certified in acupuncture (2002), and obtained a certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in 2017.

Carolyn received the YWCA Women of Distinction award (2004) and the distinguished Education Award from the OPA (2015). Carolyn was recently awarded the Medal of Distinction from the Canadian Physiotherapy Association in 2021 for her work in pelvic health and pain science.

Carolyn has been heavily involved in post-graduate pelvic health education, research in lumbopelvic pain, speaking at numerous international conferences and writing books and chapters for the past twenty years in pelvic health, orthopaedics and pain science.
