Session Description:
This presentation directed at orthopaedic clinicians will include a brief overview of foot and ankle function in supporting lower extremity biomechanics. Following, literature will be reviewed on what is currently known about foot strengthening interventions and footwear influences Lastly, recent research will guide the development of a progressive foot strengthening program that can be applied to patients throughout the lifespan.
Speaker Bio:
Dr. Jena Ogston
Dr. Jena Ogston obtained her Masters of Physical Therapy degree from Mayo School of Health Related Sciences a PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences from the University of Minnesota. Since starting in full-time academia at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN, she has developed her research agenda focusing on community clinical outcomes and foot and ankle biomechanics in the Health Science Sensorimotor lab. Her teaching expertise resides in Biomechanics, Orthopedics and Evidence Based Practice. She is currently Program Director of the transitional DPT program that serves physical therapists nationally and internationally.

Description de la séance : Cette présentation s’adressant aux cliniciens orthopédiques comprendra un bref aperçu de la fonction de la cheville et du pied dans le soutien de la biomécanique des extrémités inférieures. Ensuite, on passera en revue la littérature sur ce que l’on connaît actuellement au sujet des interventions de renforcement du pied et les influences sur les chaussures. Finalement, une recherche récente guidera l’élaboration d’un programme progressif de renforcement du pied qui peut être appliqué sur les patients tout au long de leur vie.
